I recently watched the movie Greater. It’s based on a real life story of a football athlete called Brandon Burlsworth. The movie itself is described as inspirational and motivational as Brandon started off as a novice and makes his way up and his efforts are rewarded. I won’t ruin the whole movie but I just thought I’d share some of the motivational sayings that were used in the movie.
The coach in the movie “Greater” said ,
“Thought reap in action, sow an action, you reap a habit, sow a habit you reap a character, you sow a character, you reap a destiny.”
I agree with the coach as this is kind of linked to the Law of Attraction. Even though that’s more to do with mindset and how your thoughts affect you and your life. One’s actions dictates their destiny directly. By showing up to practice consistently, Burlsworth’s actions towards football made him seem committed and hard working and putting in that extra time outside of practice became a habit. That habit later helped him as it became part of his identity / character. A large part of his time was spent being an athlete which is his part of his identity and he took that seriously. In the end, his destiny and his success wasn’t shocking because from the start he was a very ambitious and focused man.
Brandon Burlsworth said,
“Just because we don’t see the point doesn’t mean there isn’t one.” — Brandon Burlsworth
What he means by that is you may not see results immediately, but they will come. You may not understand why you’re showing up to practice on the daily, but one day it will all click. There is a point to everything even if it’s not obvious to everyone.
Brandon’s high school coach said from the beginning that he saw a future for him as long as he’d dedicate himself during practice and was “the first one to be there and the last to leave.” I find that quote to be very powerful as being punctual is a great quality to have but also it shows others the commitment. By following the coach’s recommendation, Burlsworth was able to drastically improve with all that time that he spent dedicated to his sport.
This is all to say that I do recommend this movie if you need a little pick me up, it’s a very sweet movie that gives off great inspiration through a lovely story of Brandon Burlsworth.
