I have found that the best way to learn a language is through finding the most common words and phrases of that language and memorizing that list.
- Make a list of the 1,000 most common words in the language you're trying to learn.
- The same goes for making a list of the most common phrases in that language.
For example, I’m currently learning Spanish. While learning, I’ve noticed that the Spanish verb “tener” is important & applies common phrases.
Conjugation for Tener:
yo tengo (translation: I have)
tu tienes (translation: you have)
el/ella tiene (translation: he or she has)
nosotros tenemos (we have)
vosotros tenéis (translation: you guys have — I believe, not quite sure about this one)
ellos/ellas teinen (translation: they have)
Common phrases using the verb tener.
tener frio — to be cold
tener calor — to be hot
tener hambre — to be hungry
tener sed — to be thirsty
tener sueño — to be sleepy
*Disclaimer: I’m not fluent in Spanish yet, so I’m not 100% sure if this is right. I’m just repeating the information I’ve learned.
