According to Goggins, most people have a quitting mind. The concept of quitting mind is explained by the example of a job interview. When one prepares for an upcoming job interview, they are aware of everything, thriving, and the most prepared they’ll ever be. They have their clothes laid out the night before, as well as their breakfast ready (or easy to grab and go). They have been waiting for this day to come and they have been preparing for this occasion for weeks & weeks. Once they get the job, they slip up. They might start showing up late or not have their clothes laid out, etc. The care, effort and drive that they once had is now gone because they feel safe. They managed to secure the job, so now they feel as if they can relax and not put in the effort. The key is consistency. Repetition every single day.

Your mind is your biggest competitor. It knows what you’re afraid of, your insecurities, and your lies. It pushes you to comfort. When you get to 40%, your mind says you’re done. Go to 45% and you start controlling your mind. You start finding more in yourself.

“During New Years we feel great about ourselves and we set goals in the moment. The real New Years happens when all that noise is gone. It’s quiet, you against you. With the endorphins gone, it gets harder. Repetition (waking up early, exercise, study) gets harder. How are you going to feel after accomplishing that goal? What if you could surpass everyone? The darkness is exactly what you need. It’s how you look at your situation.” — David Goggins

*Productivity isn’t about doing more, it’s about making use of your time.
