Changing your life requires ambition. A desire for improvement. It will take some changes in your behavior as well as changes in your thoughts, retraining yourself, creating some new habits. It’s more important to make a small goal that’s reachable than a huge goal that’s unreachable. When one follows through with their goal, they gain confidence and trust in themselves which helps them believe they can achieve more. Therefore, one should start small and build their way up.
Becoming ambitious will help you achieve your full potential. Life is filled with work which can be broken down into tasks and goals. Completing the work takes hard work and ambition which is why it’s necessary to be ambitious.
“Believe you can and you are halfway there.” — Theodore Roosevelt
“80% of success in anything is psychology. 20% is mechanics.” — Tony Robbins
The how to do it is not complex. Just get started.
“You’d rather be prepared for an opportunity and not have one than have an opportunity and not be prepared.” — Tony Robbins
“Embrace uncertainty. Some of the most beautiful chapters in our lives won’t have a title until much later” — Unknown
Tip:
- Find people that are mastering the area you want to go in and follow their example.
- Compete with yourself.
- Surround yourself with successful people who can help motivate you.
- Have a new mindset (positive). An easy way to start would be to say affirmations every day. Example: “I am capable, I am hard-working, etc.”
“The more you beat yourself up, the lower your energy, the lower your energy, the worse you get.” — Tony Robbins
The vicious cycle is within ourselves. Our mind is can bring us down. Negative self-talk is powerful, don’t let it control you. If you planned to have a project done by a certain date and it isn’t, don’t beat yourself up. Beating yourself up won’t help (you may know from experience). Pick yourself back up again and try again.
“The strongest force in human personality is the need to stay consistent with how we define ourselves.” — Tony Robbins
Use the strong force to your advantage. It’s the only way to achieve lasting change. Define yourself with success. Consistently prove yourself worthy of that definition.
“Your identity is defined by who you believe you are and who you believe you are not.” — Tony Robbins
Don’t identify yourself with negativity, define yourself properly. Any definition works as long as it motivates and pushes you forward. Thrive for excellence.
“Complexity is the enemy of execution” — Tony Robbins
In other words, it’s important to have simple goals and a precise plan of execution. Complexity takes more time to understand which isn’t very motivating and can lead to overall procrastination.
“Change your story. Change your life.” — Tony Robbins
The idea is to stop victimizing yourself. Your story does not mean your future. You can change your story. Change the narrative.
“What being is there that does not desire happiness? Well then, since all of us desire happiness, how can we be happy? — that is the next question.” — Plato, Euthydemus
Seeking a meaningful life instead of striving for happiness will not only bring you a deeper sense of living, but it also can bring you a sense of happiness.
Do not have a fixed mindset. Instead, learn to have a growth mindset.
So how can one be happy? Finding meaning can help one realize their gifts and become grateful.
- Belonging (relationships-valued for who you are).
- Purpose: what you give(using your strength to help others)
- Transcendence feeling connected to a higher reality.
- Storytelling (the story you tell yourself about yourself)
Motivation:
“Failure is the springboard for growth” — Unknown
“90% of everything you do is the result of habit.” — Aristotle.
“We’re being rewarded in public for the things we practice in private” — Tony Robbins
Others are blind to your journey. They can’t see the effort, dedication, and struggle it took for you to get from where you started to where you are now. Anyone can see your results, by either watching you play a sport, looking at your diploma, etc. But nobody will ever truly know the struggle you went through, the amount of time it took, or any other related factor beyond the surface. It’s harder to be motivated during the practice alone than once others start noticing a difference. What happens after we achieve our goal? It’s definitely not easy to keep going at the same pace and with the same determination as before. But if you can do it once, it can be done again.
“Why do you stop (pursuing your goal)? It’s because you’re lazy, it’s because you don’t mind being mediocre, it doesn’t bother you enough.” — David Goggins
Don’t push yourself to be someone you aren’t. Find something you enjoy doing, something that sparks joy.
“Nothing will work unless you do” — Maya Angelou
Prioritize yourself and your needs. Once you are in a good state of mind, only then can you go on and help others and start taking care of them. A good analogy would be the guided instructions that airlines show before your departure on a flight, first you put on your mask before assisting someone else. It’s crucial to take care of yourself and do whatever work that needs to be taken care of, before being able to help someone else.
Lastly, be ambitious and take action. Be proactive in your life rather than reacting to it.
